TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) and TOYOTA Racing were last night honoured in its home city of Cologne at the annual Professional Motorsport World Awards, which recognise and reward the innovative thinking and hard work of the motorsport industry.

The TMG-designed TS030 HYBRID was named Race Car of the Year while the TOYOTA HYBRID System - Racing took Powertrain of the Year honours after votes from a 19-man judging panel.

TMG President Yoshiaki Kinoshita collected the Powertrain of the Year Trophy while TMG Project Leader Chassis John Litjens was presented with the award for Race Car of the Year at the event in central Cologne.

On behalf of the judging panel, Mark Raffauf, Managing Director or Operations at Grand-Am, said: “The TOYOTA powertrain is the first truly successful gasoline hybrid in sportscar racing and was put into competition early in its planned development in conjunction with a new car. The team deserves credit for doing something different, quickly, and with success in performance and reliability right out of the box. The LMP1 TOYOTA has accomplished a great deal in an arena in which it is difficult to succeed when conventional technologies are used. To develop both a power system and a car at the same time, and achieve success with it against very stiff and proven competition, is a remarkable accomplishment.”
