Tuesday 17 December 2013

TMG GT86 Cup competitors will be fighting for a share of an €86,000 prize fund in 2014, TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has announced.

The Cup, exclusively open to TMG GT86 CS-V3 race cars and running within the Nürburgring-based VLN series, enjoyed a successful first season in which entries increased throughout the 10-race campaign.

With the Cup confirmed for at least the 2014 and 2015 seasons, a further increase in the grid is expected next year.

Competitors will challenge not only for Cup honours, they will also compete for a total of €86,000 in cash, plus spot prizes and in-kind benefits such as free high-performance racing tyres from official partner Pirelli.

The winning driver will receive €25,000 while second place takes home €18,000, and third place €13,000, with the top eight drivers all receiving significant prize money.

Teams will also benefit from more practical entry fee structure which, in a change from 2013, will be charged per car rather than per driver. The €4,500 fee ensures all drivers are eligible for the Cup standings and, with three drivers normally part of each car entry, represents the same value for money as in 2013.

That entry fee includes three driver overalls, plus rental of additional overalls for one-off or guest drivers who are also eligible for Cup points. Other advantages such as special conditions on spare parts and Pirelli tyres, plus on-track spare parts supply, remain.

TMG can also confirm the Cup schedule for 2014, which will again mirror the VLN calendar. The first race will take place on 29 March, with the 10th and final event coming on 25 October.

The Nürburgring 24 Hours is not part of the schedule, but the GT86 CS-V3 is eligible for the V3 category, which has been won by this car for the past two years.

Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “We have been very pleased with the reaction to the GT86 CS-V3 and the TMG GT86 Cup, but our instinct is to always improve. Therefore we are trying to pass some of the Cup’s success on to the people who made the competition so impressive in 2013; the participants. An €86,000 prize fund is a real incentive for new and existing teams alike. I believe the GT86 CS-V3 and TMG GT86 Cup are already established as real assets to the VLN championship and I am confident this positive impression will only be strengthened by the improvements we have made for 2014.”

Potential teams and drivers can find more detailed information about the Cup on www.gt86-cup.com, which includes a database of drivers seeking teams and teams seeking drivers. Information regarding updates to the TMG CS-V3 race car for the 2014 season, including new option parts, will be announced in the new year.
